SCAT!!!

We are ready to leave Castlegar tomorrow!  Since the last post, we went on a hike along the Columbia River where we saw lots of bear poop (every 10 feet or so, big lumps of apple sauce or cherry pit pie), but thankfully James and Ethan have the loudest voices of any kids on Earth, so no bears!  Now, how many kids do you know who can actually scare the s#%* out of a bear?!!?

The weather has been mostly very fine, but we've had just enough snow (2 days) to remind us that it is time to head south.  We are expecting temperatures of 7-10 degrees C over the next few days, and we are going to take advantage of the window of sun to spend a few days in the lower Okanagan Valley, just west of here, still in B.C.

In the spirit of the winter we get to avoid, Ethan and I made a snowman (quickly, before the snow melted!) while James was at school. You can see that the snow surprised everyone as the leaves are still on the ground (and rolled into the snowman). Marty found us a nice piece of celery for the nose, as he couldn't find the carrots (ok, to be fair, there weren't actually any carrots, so he's off the hook (this time)).

After Marty arrived, James put on a special piano performance for him, playing 3 pieces from his weekly lessons.  Ethan was so excited when "Maw-dy" arrived, he kept saying "Maw-dy, I wuv oo."  Marty wasn't quite sure how to react to such impish behaviour, and only replied "Uh, I think you're swell too..."  Ethan has also invented a new word which should be in the dictionary as it makes perfect sense: "No, I amn't!".

Halloween was as exciting and spooky as it should be, with the best Harry Potter and black cat ever skulking around the neighbourhood.  It was worth all the sweat-equity we put into the costume. Even Sara got into the act, transfiguring into Professor McGonagall.

See you on the sunny side, we're off...
